Seeing Eye: Newton Falls plans tree lighting for Saturday | News, Sports, Jobs


TREE LIGHTING: The Newton Falls Chamber of Commerce will host a tree lighting ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The Tree of Light at 7pm The Grinch Company and New Wave Dance will be among the festive events. Children can participate in a costume. Several stores in the downtown area will be decorated and open with special promotions.

MISSION DINNER: The Warren Family Mission is hosting its annual free Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the mission, 155 Tod Ave. NW For information, call 330-394-5437.

JCC skating: The winter camp at the JCC of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, will open Friday for skating on its synthetic ice rink and skating rink. The winter camp will be open through Dec. 31.

SIGNUP FOR CHRISTMAS SERVER: Emmanuel Community Care Center in Girardo is accepting signups for Christmas. Families interested in enrolling in the center can call 330-545-4301 and name their children ages 12 and up. Families can suggest gift ideas for their children. The gift suggestion will be written in texts that will be available for participating churches or by calling the center.

A wish list of gift suggestions for children can also be found in the Amazon link. Donations are needed by December 8. Families will receive a phone call from the center to let them know when to collect the donations.

TOY DRIVE: Menard’s home improvement store on Elm Street in Bazetta serves as a toy drive dropoff site. There will be a drop box near the door of all stores to collect new, unlucky toys from now through the end of November. Gifts will be distributed within the community through a non-profit organization.

ACALAE RED: Hubbard Christians in Action will participate in raising funds for the Hubbard Salvation Army Unit. All funds remain in the Hubbard area to provide food, shelter, utilities and other emergency services to those in need. HCA will start ringing the bell on Wednesdays and every weekend in December.

LEARNING LUNCHBOXES: The Girard Free Library hosts learning lunch boxes on Wednesdays from 12:15 to 4 p.m. Center for Science and Industry (COSI) kits are filled with STEM activities and science experiments for children ages 5 to 12. Children can sign up for a 45-minute time slot to complete a water experiment with library staff. To sign up, call 330-545-2508.

Games on the youth board will be from 2 to 4 pm on Wednesday.
