Montgomery Animal Care and Control helps owners find lost pets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Montgomery Animal Care and Control will have an officer to help the community find their pets that may have been lost in the storms.

An officer will be available from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday at West Creek Elementary School. The officer will scan the pets for a microchip and find the owners.

“If you have found a lost pet, you can bring it to this location to be scanned,” Montgomery County Animal Care and Control said in a Facebook post. “Officers have already located some lost pets so please check our pages often.

Montgomery County Animal Care and Control said it will have staff at the shelter at 616 N Spring St. to scan pets for microchips until 5 p.m. They will also be offering free microchipping to pets this week at the shelter and in affected areas of Montgomery County including:

  • Tiny City
  • Tylertown
  • West Creek
  • Seabird
  • Britton Springs

For those who have found a lost pet, Montgomery County Animal Care is asking people to keep the pet safe until the shelter arrives in their area or when people can bring it to the shelter.

Until people can come to the shelter, they can do the following:

  • Fill out a pet report found on the Montgomery Animal Care website and attach a photo of the pet
  • Post a photo and location of where pets were found and post on pet lost and found pages for Montgomery County and Clarksville and surrounding areas.
  • If you do not have access to Montgomery Animal Care’s Facebook or website, please email [email protected] with a complete description of the pet, your information, the location of the found pet and a good photo of the pet and they will create a found reference there.

Montgomery County Animal Care is also warning people to watch out for scammers.

“There are some terrible people out there who will also try to scam pet owners who have lost or found a pet by asking for money or goods instead of returning the pet to its owner,” Montgomery Animal Care said.
